Aaron Futrell for City Council At Large

The journey to Aurora, Colorado, which I have called home since I was 8, has not always been easy. I’ve learned many lessons the hard way. However, through hard work and perseverance, I’ve overcome obstacles and found success.

During my time at MSU Denver, I served as a Student Senator (Speaker Pro Tem for 3 of my 4 years), represented Student Government in the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Office, and sat on the Met Media Board. I studied Criminal Justice with a minor in Human Services. These experiences ignited my passion for community engagement and gave me a strong foundation to build on.

I worked hard to rebuild relationships across campus, including with the African American Department, and helped plan several Sankofa Lecture Series events. I strengthened student relations wherever I was involved.

From 2018 to 2023, I served on the Human Relations Commission, including as vice-chair in 2022-2023. My passion project, “Never Walk Alone,” partnered with local nonprofits to provide essential items to the unhoused. I also serve on the RTD Citizens Advisory Committee, where we work to improve transportation accessibility and safety. Additionally, I’ve been involved with the Colorado People’s Alliance, where I testified in support of the Clean Water in All Schools Bill.

Though I didn’t speak a word until I was 3, I have found my voice as a community advocate. I’m committed to police reform, better infrastructure, and greater accessibility for Aurora residents.

I am running for At-Large City Council because we need change. The current council meetings are chaotic, and I care deeply about the community I grew up in. I love Aurora, and my campaign will remind people why Aurora is the #1 place for families to live.

Introducing Aaron Futrell

Rooted in Aurora. Rising Together.

Growing up, my heroes were people who stood for justice, resilience, and community—Barack Obama, Emmett Till, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and my own grandparents, Edna and John Mosley—pillars of the Aurora and Denver communities. I was raised by a hardworking single mother who sacrificed daily to provide for us. Much of my childhood was spent at my grandparents’ house on Moline Street, just a short distance from where I stand today.

Now, as a public servant working for the U.S. Postal Service and a proud member of the American Postal Workers Union, I know firsthand what it means to fight for stability, dignity, and opportunity. Like many, I worry about the future—about job security, about rising costs, and about whether Aurora will continue to be a place where families can plant roots and thrive.

That’s why I’m running for Aurora City Council.

My campaign is built on a simple but powerful belief: “Our Roots Give Us Wings.” It’s more than a family saying—it’s a community rallying cry. I believe in an Aurora where families don’t just get by, they soar. A city where people come back to raise their children because they know they’re supported, safe, and seen.

My Priorities:

✅ Economic Growth That Lifts Everyone

We’ll support small businesses with smart, transparent investment—no more backroom deals. Let’s make Aurora a place where local entrepreneurs thrive and national businesses want to invest—because they see our community’s value.

✅ Real Police Accountability

We need public safety that protects and respects. I’ll fight for reform that includes revising the POST exam, mandatory de-escalation training, demilitarization, and rebuilding trust through community-based policing.

✅ Opportunities for Youth

By reinvesting in programs that give our young people a future—sports, arts, outdoor adventures—we keep them inspired and off the streets. Every child deserves access to meaningful, safe, and enriching experiences.

✅ Infrastructure & Transit for a Growing City

From fixing roads to expanding public transportation, I’ll work with RTD to improve mobility—especially in fast-growing areas like Southeast Aurora, where access is too often a barrier.

✅ A City That Includes Everyone

Your voice matters—especially if you’ve been overlooked. I’m committed to advocating for residents with visible and invisible disabilities and ensuring access to jobs, housing, and safe spaces for every neighbor.

In our Aurora, everyone has a seat at the table. Together, we can build a city that honors our roots—and gives every family the wings to rise.

Join us. Let’s rise together.
